How Will We Know When We Have Finally Gotten Over 9/11?

I think we have the answer to that now, courtesy of the Today Show:

Someone has very cleverly created a four-way split screen of the morning of 9/11 news programs during the traditional "moment of silence".  Two carried the complete moment of silence, one carried most of it and the Today Show decided to air a piece on Kris Jenner's breast augmentation instead.

Even after 11 years it is still too fresh in our minds, so it will take a while. But did we do this as a nation to commemorate the Pearl Harbor attack 11 years later? Not according to this article:

In Dec. 7, 1952, a group from the Disabled American Veterans used a gold-plated shovel to break ground for a memorial on Pearl Harbor. It was the only notable commemoration in that day's news cycle.

I think it's fading already, but agree with Ita that it will take some time.  I got over it pretty quickly – like a month.  Lost some friends so was bummed out for a while.

Admittedly, was a bit teary when I went down to the WTC in Oct 01.  Also bizzare to not see WTC in skyline for a while.

In the NY area and DC people probably will remember it longer.  Everyone knew someone that died.
