I don’t like to declare victory prematurely. I worry that if everyone thinks that Obama already won the election that people who would vote for Obama may just decide to stay home. But according to a recent Gallup poll that will not be the case, as Democrats as of recently are more energized about the election than Republicans especially in key swing states.
Voter enthusiasm in these states has grown among members of both political parties; however, Democrats' level has increased more. Thus, whereas equal percentages of Democrats and Republicans were enthusiastic in June, Democrats are now significantly more enthusiastic than Republicans, 73% vs. 64%.
Independents' enthusiasm also jumped substantially over this period — up 18 points, similar to the 20-point gain among Democrats.
With that being said, I will actually indulge in some election predictions and a bit of premature celebration: Yay! Obama is handily beating Romney in Halloween mask sales!
According to a Huffpost article, this year, Obama Halloween masks are outselling Romney masks by more than 30 percent.
"Our presidential index has proven to be a consistent and accurate predictor of the next president for nearly two decades," Spirit Halloween company CEO and president Steven Silverstein told NewsMax.
For instance, Spirit Halloween figures show that Bill Clinton outsold Bob Dole by 71 percent to 29; George W. Bush outsold Al Gore by 57 percent to 43; Bush outsold John Kerry by 65 percent to 35; and Obama outsold John McCain by 60 percent to 40.
The BuyCostumes.com website features an interactive electoral map graph with states colored blue in which Obama mask sales are beating Romney mask sales, and red otherwise. To get the state-by-state totals just hover over a state.
For some odd reason, Paul Ryan from Wisconsin is making up 100% of GOP-themed Halloween masks in Alabama.
And in North Carolina, 97% of masks sold are Obama/Biden masks and only 3% Romney/Ryan’s. Why would that be? Tom, you are from North Carolina, maybe you know?
